Task-based Self-Organization in Large Smart Spaces: Issues and Challenges
نویسنده
چکیده
Smart spaces of the future will consist of a large number of computing devices intelligently communicating with each other to perform various day-to-day tasks. Selforganization of these devices to form task-oriented clusters is a necessity as these devices grow in number. Given a rich collection of mobile tetherless smart-devices, it is important to investigate schemes for task-based self-organization so as to enable a large number of ubiquitous services and applications. We believe that making the self-organization process task-based, instead of depending on connectivity and nearness alone, will augment the richness of any given ad-hoc network of nodes and will enhance its capabilities significantly. We elaborate on some theoretical and practical research issues in task-based self-organization in this position statement. Proc. DARPA/NIST/NSF Workshop on Research Issues in Smart Environments, Georgia Intitute of Technology, Atlanta, GA, July 1999.

In modern infrastructure, the demand for DC power-based appliances is rapidly increasing, and this phenomenon has created a positive impact on the acceptance of the DC microgrid. However, due to numerous issues such as the absence of zero crossing, bidirectional behaviour of sources, and different magnitudes of fault current during grid connected and islanded modes of operation, protecting DC m...
متن کاملDesigning Middleware for Smart Spaces
Smart spaces augment people’s lives with ubiquitous computing technology that provides increased communications, awareness, and functionality. However, smart spaces pose many technical challenges in device interaction/integration, user/environment perception, system interoperability and scalability, as well as security/privacy/trust. In this paper, we first examine some key issues in smart spac...

The future smart energy grid demands for new control paradigms that are able to incorporate a huge number of rather small, distributed and individually configured energy resources. In order to allow for a transition of the current central market and network structure to a decentralized smart grid, with small units pooling together to jointly trade their electricity production on specialized mar...

Purpose – Smart spaces are open complex computing systems, consisting of a large variety of cooperative smart things. Central to building smart spaces is the support for sophisticated coordination among diverse smart things collaborating to accomplish specified tasks. Multi-agent systems are often used as the software infrastructures to address the coordination issue in smart spaces. However, s...
